"Bugs at Work"

Exhibit Returns

The Colorado Plateau Museum of Arthropod Biodiversity will once again collaborate with The Arboretum in the spring of 2008 on the exhibit "Bugs at Work".  NAU entomologists Robert Delph and Neil Cobb have been very generous with their time to help mount this fascinating exhibit that shows a wide variety of native insects.  During April and May school groups and drop-in visitors can examine live and mounted spiders, scorpions, butterflies, bees, and other arthropods.  Learn some of the strange feeding and mating habits of these tiny creatures.  Find out why they are so vital to the health of our gardens and ecosystem.

Live Bug Zoo:  Saturday, May 10 & 24

Join an entomologist from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the "Live Bug Zoo" in the classroom of Horticulture Center on Saturday, May 10, and again on Saturday, May 24 for an opportunity to get a close-up look at tarantulas, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, emperor scorpions, and many more creepy-crawlies.  Robert Delph will remove a selection of arthropods from their cages to share with visitors while he explains their unique habits and roles in the environment.  For more information about this program, call 774-1442.
