The Arboretum is a great place for children to discover nature in a variety of habitats, including wetlands, forests, cultivated gardens, and meadows. Our Summer Outdoor Adventure Programs explore not only plants but also birds and other animals. Children embark on a different adventure each week, where they learn about natural habitats, make crafts, play games, and enjoy a snack.

Can you dig it? We can! Find out what it takes to grow a high desert garden that you can eat. Learn how to take soil samples, examine soil profiles, explore planting techniques and gain watering wisdom. Participate in the ancient tradition of grinding your own flour by using historical and modern techniques.
Explore the world of Northern Arizona wildlife. Learn how to track animals, go on nature hikes with real life wildlife biologists, navigate field guides, and discover the animals around us as we explore the forests and fields. Campers will enjoy hands-on discovery, games, art projects, nature hikes, and a trip to Bearizona.
Bugs are everywhere! Come learn about the fascinating lives of the 6-legged creatures. What do they eat? Where do they live? Campers will discover these answers through live capture, observation, photography, and other activities. Guest speakers will present hands-on demonstrations where campers will catch Monarch Butterflies and find Bark Beetles.
Learn how to be an Eco Kid! Campers will learn about natural resource conservation, sustainable living, organic gardening, and the three "R's" (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Activities include making nature journals, going on nature hikes, paper making, working in the garden, and crafting recycled art out of everyday objects.
Investigate and observe the natural world through a combined lens of art and science. Children will artistically express the wonders of the natural world during games, activities and in the creation of many works of art!
Learn the skills it takes to be a naturalist while exploring The Arboretum grounds. Campers will learn how to keep their own nature journal, will have the chance to practice keen observation skills to find animal habitats and tracks, and enjoy presentations by local naturalists. Willow Bend will be collaborating on this camp.
