Due to a cold snap, the fall colors at The Arboretum are waning.  However there are still many places to see golden aspen trees in our area.  The ideal locations are on Snowbowl Road, at Lockett Meadow and Hart Prairie Road.  Daily tours at 11:00 and 1:00 at The Arboretum will introduce you to the dynamics of changing color and the variety of deciduous and coniferous trees that are found in the high country.

Report, Oct. 2, 2007

Warm days and cool nights this month are turning the leaves lovely shades of red and gold.  The Herb Garden, below, displays  shrubs such as chokecherry, three-leafed sumac, and currants.  They make a nice contrast to the wide selection of herbs that thrive despite the chilly nights.

Report, Sept. 28, 2007

Colors continue to intensify this week with warm days and cool nights.  Maples and aspens take on a red and golden glow, while oaks wait for the last moment to show their amber hues under the ever-present green of chlorophyll.

Shrubs, such as the chokecherry below, become more vibrant by the day.  The Arizona honeysuckle in the foreground continues to bloom, despite the nighttime lows that have been hovering around the freezing point.

 Report, Sept. 26, 2007

Aspens will be at their peak this weekend, in time for Fall Open House.  The chokecherries are turning.  Shrubs are just starting to have a tinge of orange and red (currants and three-leaf sumac.)
