Guided Birdwalks - 2008Saturdays, 7:30 - 9:00 a.m. Free of charge. Members of the Audubon Society will once again lead Saturday morning birdwalks through the gardens at The Arboretum. The walks are free and meet at 7:30 a.m. every Saturday, May through July and in September as well, when a large variety of migrating birds pass through northern Arizona. UPDATE: Some Interesting Information Derived From Bird Walk Data 1999 – 20051. Average number of bird species seen per Bird Walk for the most consistent months (number of walks in parentheses.) May June July Combined
1999
28.5 (2)
29.3 (3) 28.0 (2)
28.7 (7) Min/Max #s 16/32 17/32 16/35 * Pond may have been dry for a good part of this summer. It certainly was in May, and Red-wing Blackbirds were only seen on one bird walk. ** There were actually 5 more bird walks, but leaders did not turn in species lists. Also the early spring was very wet, so there were lots of flowers and insects everywhere, which may have spread out the birds. 2. Ten most common species seen, counting all 97 Bird Walks reported (not just the May, June and July ones):
#1 Western Bluebird
(seen on 96% of the bird walks) |
