Since The Arb began 45 years ago, dedicated scientists have conducted amazing research on just about all aspects of plants including invasive species studies, rare plant conservation work, sustainability in gardening, and forest health.

Our nursery is open and our greenhouse manager is on a mission to make gardening in Flagstaff a success story – instead of the all-too-common tale of mishap and tragedy.

There is a misconception about growing wildflowers, particularly in the arid lands of the American west. Nate suspects it might be because of the very name “wildflowers.”

When we think of pollinators, most of us picture honeybees, but here on the Colorado Plateau, there’s a whole hidden world of pollinators waiting to be discovered.

At the Arboretum, our mission extends beyond conservation of native plants. We are cultivating understanding by helping young people see the connections between plants, wildlife, water, and the health of our community.

With snow on the ground and frigid temperatures, it is hard to believe that there is an important garden task that can occur this time of year–renewal pruning your deciduous shrubs!
